Wayne Huntsinger

Wayne Huntsinger is a former American Athlete, Musician, and Engineer. Two of the greatest Honors in the history of sports were achieved by him. The First was being invited by the legendary player and rugby coach Clive Rowlands to play for the 1972 Welsh rugby team led by captain Sir Gareth Edwards. This team was selected in a 2003 BBC poll as the second greatest team in sports history. Only the 1970 Brazilian soccer football team led by Pele finished higher. To put this in perspective Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls finished fourth in the BBC poll.

RUGBY PLAYER

This was accomplished during a tour of the United Kingdom in the Spring of 1972 with Whitemarsh Rugby Football Club. (AT that time players had to live in that country for at least 2 consecutive years to play on a national team)He also Played Wing for South Jersey Rugby Football Club next to Dallas Cowboy great Mike Johnson who played Rugby after he retired from Professional football.

He also ran track at Drexel University and as described in March 5, 1970, Drexel Triangle he ran a 4.8 second indoors 50-yard dash handheld time (FAT electronic time 5.04 sec)

 

This eclipsed Kirk Claytons 5.0 sec FAT(5.24 sec)WORLD RECORD time in 1970. The Canadian Olympian Ben Johnson years later ran 5.15 sec Electronically indoors. Most races today have been run in meters and timed electronically since 1976. Wayne was more noted as the most decathlon type of athlete in Drexel University history. He was selected co-captain and MVP by the coaches in both the indoor and outdoor track team in 1971 and in 1969 received the West Philadelphia Lions Club Award as the Most Outstanding Football Player in the City playing both Offense and Defense and returning kicks and punts. Furthermore, he received Lt Greene Memorial Award at Drexel University who during the course of his studies displayed to the highest degree the attributes of Courage, Cooperation, Leadership, and Sportsmanship.

He also received the Prestigious Honor D award. He was selected to the Drexel Dragon Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Camden County Legends Hall of Fame in 2015 as well as the Cherry Hill High School Hall of Fame in 1966. He was highly recruited By Harry Gamble Former President of the Philadelphia Eagles who was the line Coach at the University of Pennsylvania but choose Drexel University because of its Prestigious Engineering program.
